Basic Coaching Course

Location

The “Bootshaus” was an important training centre for rowing and canoeing between the 1950s and the end of the 1970s. The boats are stored on the ground floor, with a hotel, a pleasant café and a large patio occupying the first floor. The basic 2- and 3-person rooms are located on the top floor. Each room is provided with a toilet and shower. A sauna is available downstairs, and adjoining the Bootshaus there is a a multi-purpose field for playing tennis, basket ball, volleyball or five-a-side football.

Courses in Dreisbach an der Saar include accommodation with full board. All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are included. No restitution will be given when meals are not joined. Prices for overnight stay are based on a two person room. For a single person room, an additional fare of €80,- will be charged.  The available 2-person rooms in the hotel (“Bootshaus”), facing the river Saar, will be booked on a first come, first served basis.

The easiest way to get to Dreisbach is by car or train. The train will take you from Cologne along the rivers Rhine, Moselle and Saar – a particularly scenic journey. From Mettlach or Merzig train station, it is just a short taxi ride to the “Bootshaus” in Dreisbach.

The “Bootshaus”

Saarland

The Saarland

Saarland, the area around the Saar, is renowned as an excellent region for walking and cycling. One of the many hiking and cycling routes passes just in front of the rowing centre. A 1.5-hour walk will take you from the “Bootshaus” up to the viewpoint overlooking the Schleife, the sweeping bend in the Saar river. Another option for a nearby excursion is to take the ferry across the Saar and climb the castle ruins. You will be rewarded with some truly magnificent views. The surroundings are also very well suited to exploration by mountain bike.

Mettlach, also known as Germany’s Ceramics City, is within walking and cycling distance. In addition to the Villeroy&Boch factory with its bustling outlet shop, the Ceramics Museum is a worthwhile attraction to visit. And don’t forget to pay a visit to the picturesque town centre of “Weinort” (“wine town”) Saarburg. A little further off at around 45 km, the beautiful old city of Trier boasts a wealth of intact Roman remains.
